nickname jos' "3" Is A Gauzy Shoegaze Soundscape + Album Announce

Nashville-based artist and producer, nickname jos, has unveiled his latest single, “3,” a bewitching shoegaze track luring listeners into his new sound. Alongside the single release, nickname jos announces his new album, Buckshot, set for release on August 29th via Acrophase Records. 

“3” begins with a beat made of found percussion, left-of-center in its jarring catchiness, but also familiar in the essence of each sample. A synth plucks out a chord from not-too-far-away but not so close either, and Mk.gee resonates in the metallic warmth of it. There’s a magic to room sound, and nickname jos is wielding it to create this atmosphere. His vocals are ever so intentionally distorted, draped with an electronic mask that warbles out any echoes, digitizing the landscape. 

Then, the post-chorus envelopes us in a shoe gaze vortex of fuzzed guitars, dark chords, and layers of gauzy white noise. Suddenly, the echoing cavern of “3” is full, and nickname jos pushes and pulls us between these two extremes. 


“3” is a perfect representation of nickname jos’ production mastery, with collaborations ranging from Samia, Annie Di’Russo, The Greeting Committee, Kristiane, to Hannah Cole. His debut album, Buckshot, is bound to be an exploration in sonics and identity, and we’ll be watching for the release.
