Revenge Wife Wonders If She’s The Problem On Single “What If It *Is* Me?!”

Modern love is complicated — just ask Revenge Wife. In new single “What If It *Is* Me?!,” she grapples with dating woes, questioning whether her partners are the ones to blame, or if she’s the problem in the dating equation.

“What If It *Is* Me?!” is a surf-rock banger, infused with a punk edge and Revenge Wife’s airy vocals. The track was produced and written by the artist, making it feel completely unique — to both her, and pop music as a whole.

The track sees her grapple with the questions that can arise after one too many failed relationships. “Now that the storm is over, I just wonder // how did I survive?” she asks, putting the blame squarely on a past lover with her next question: “What if it’s not me?”

However, as the song progresses, she begins to wonder if maybe she has something to do with her romantic missteps, remembering a time when she “thought you were my type,” but now “just can’t decide.”

The song builds up before dropping into a delicate bridge, with Revenge Wife asking, “When will the car pull over? When will I be discovered? I only want one lover” over a minimalist drum beat and guitar line. Finally, she faces the facts: “What if it is me?”

“What If It *Is* Me?!” is part of Revenge Wife’s upcoming album Alien Witch, where each track represents a different zodiac sign. “What If It *Is* Me?!” is “in Leo,” per an Instagram post from the artist, and the track reflects the sign’s propensity for confidence — and pride. Revenge Wife’s lyrics paint a picture of someone who is totally sure of themself, but is starting to wonder if that self-confidence is misplaced.

It can be hard to face the fact that you might be the problem, but Revenge Wife’s “What If It *Is* Me?” can help soften the blow — and let you know you’re not alone in trying to figure out where your relationships are going wrong.
