Slow Joy Promises To Be "Here For You" On Gritty New Love Song | THE NOISE

Dallas-based Chicano artist Slow Joy, Esteban Flores's project, has released his latest single, "Here For You." Produced by Mike Sapone and recorded at Ghost Hit Recording in Springfield, MA, and Sonic Ranch in El Paso, TX, the single highlights Flores's continued ability to balance heaviness with a deep, heartfelt vulnerability.

With its unique fusion of shoegaze, grunge, and emotional punk, the single offers a cathartic wall-of-sound crescendo. It folds themes of grief and healing into a gritty love song, creating an intense and emotionally resonant sound led by brooding guitar riffs, grooving bass lines, and driving percussion. Over the rich production, Flores promises his loved one that no matter what, he'll always "...be here for you forever."

"'Here For You' is my first attempt at a proper love song… but like a gritty love song," shared Flores. "I think it's easy to be there for someone in the good times, but that real stuff is when you stick with someone through the dark times. I just want my girl to know I'd be there for her whenever, forever."

The accompanying music video is a striking visual that continues the narrative established in previous Slow Joy releases. Featuring the now-familiar masked figures of the Bull and the Sugar Skull, the video delves further into themes of mental health, grief, and identity. These symbolic characters, drawn from Mexican cultural imagery, represent chaos, strength, death, and remembrance, each playing a crucial role in expanding the emotional layers of Flores's storytelling. The Sugar Skull, tied to Día de los Muertos traditions, reflects loss and the memory of loved ones, a significant element in Flores's songwriting since the loss of his mother. The Bull represents aggression, fear, and resilience, inspired by Mexican cultural reverence and personal family history.

The new single will appear on Slow Joy's highly anticipated debut album, A Joy So Slow At Times, I Don't Think It's Coming. The album, set to be released on May 16, is a culmination of Flores's unique musical journey and will feature recent releases like "Gruesome" and "Wound." Rooted in Flores's experience as a Chicano artist, it delves deep into themes of grief, identity, and resilience.
