The Driver Era Balance Vulnerability and Euphoria in New Double Release

From their band name to their genre-spanning music, Ross and Rocky Lynch of The Driver Era have strived to create a sound and musical identity that captures a classic feeling while still looking toward tomorrow. It has brought to life a collection of innovative and anthemic tracks, including their lauded 2019 debut album, X. Today sees the duo set the stage for their highly-anticipated sophomore album with a new double release.

"OMG Plz Don't Come Around" and "flashdrive" arrive following the announcement of The Driver Era's world tour postponement due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Taken together, the two tracks offer a varied glance at what they have in store for us once the duo's sophomore album drops this summer. Ross spoke further on their forthcoming sophomore album, sharing with SPIN in a recent interview,

"What's exciting about these songs is that they all have different creation times, in that some of them have been in the process for a year or two and some of them we just started making a few months ago. We didn't just sit down and start making the album right here, right now. The songs all came from different points in our lives."

Launched by the sound of a plane taking flight, "OMG Plz Don't Come Around" is an atmospheric, emotive reflection on a push-and-pull relationship. The lines "I'm addled up / Cause you make me so damn confused / I'm out of luck / Spent it all up on loving you" take on a noticeable weight as minimal production and instrumentation reverberate through the air.

Then seconds later we are taken to the euphoric all-night jam that is "flashdrive." Under a textured haze, The Driver Era chronicles the sensation of letting a blissful night slip through your fingers as drinks continue to flow. The effect is outright intoxicating.

The double release of "OMG Plz Don't Come Around" and "flashdrive" is a testament to the range of The Driver Era. Ross and Rocky Lynch regularly balance classic anthemic prowess and heartfelt vulnerability with flawless ease.
