Your Neighbors Gives Over His Soul in Latest Single "Outta My Mind"

Chaotic indie-pop outfit Your Neighbors, helmed by songwriter and producer Walker Robinson, has shared their new single "Outta My Mind." The track is pure ecstasy, focusing on the message of letting yourself go down a self-destructive path and fully embracing the mess that may follow in your wake.

The single is a dizzying fever dream, opening with a collage of sound and vocal samples reminiscent of a Sonic machine booting up. Robinson croons over the chameleonic production, "My god’s whatever makes my day / And it’s bound to change but... My god’s whatever takes my pain / Well take the reigns / Reveal my skin, so thin / Gimme some of that cardinal sin." He proclaims his readiness to give over his soul and even his life to this higher power if it means he can be freed from the turmoil of his mind.

"At this point, the character is going further down into the pits of hedonism," says Robinson. "Throwing caution to the wind and going headfirst into all the pleasures life has to offer. They encounter another person that they think will bring them some sort of fulfillment. But this other person has an even more depraved moral code, and they get a good look at how dark living for yourself can really get."

Your Neighbors is headed by a self-proclaimed "insecure, low-rent, drunken has-been with high expectations and a damning sense of self-awareness." Robinson experiments with various genres, from dad rock to hip-hop, working with world-class producers and highly talented musicians to compensate for his lack of instrumental prowess and shallow lyrics. Your Neighbors hopes to find a foothold in the music world by throwing anything and everything at the wall, hoping something will stick. Almost monthly, he plans to release new songs inspired by artists miles ahead of him creatively. If you don't like the most recent release, don't worry. He will likely do a 180 and completely dismantle another genre next month. Come along for the journey and embrace the chaos; it knows no bounds.
