grentperez Announces Upcoming EP With the Danceable Single “When the Day Is Done”

grentperez has announced his upcoming EP, When We Were Younger, kicking it off with a timeless, disco-pop triumph of a lead single.

“When the Day Is Done” is a kaleidoscopic assortment of sunny funk-fueled sounds. A lively guitar puts us beachside with its light, jazzy chords and slight surf-rock breeziness. The bass rocks a laid-back groove that lives in the world of soul, sauntering through confident lines. This funky arrangement creates a playground for grentperez’s vocals, bringing out rich low tones and runs.

This is the sort of song that I hear and just know it would be a joy to see live. I can already see the way each band member would take a solo – the bassist venturing on a groovy riff, drums leaning into a flashy fill.

A look at the lyrics reveals a note of sentimentality that fringes “When the Day Is Done”. At its core, it’s about family: the ease of knowing someone’s got your back.

“Damn, I can't believe that little boy used to be me / that same dumb head, different state of mind

Guess it's safe to say that dad and I / share the same ol' smile and eyes

Though he's had a bit more time…”

Grant himself shot and edited a cheeky music video to accompany the release of “When the Day Is Done”. He puppeteers a stuffed dog through some smooth dance moves across a tchotchke-decorated windowsill acting as a stage. It showcases everything this song is supposed to be: carefree and delivered with a smile, radiating with a simultaneously youthful and mature charm.

Giving listeners an enticing glimpse into the nostalgic scenery to come in the When We Were Younger EP, grentperez has created a personal classic with ever-danceable “When the Day Is Done”.
