Mechatok, Bladee, Ecco2k Join Forces For "Expression On Your Face"
Munich-born, Berlin-based Mechatok has built a reputation as a producer extraordinaire through his work with artists like Drain Gang and Charli XCX. Now, he continues cementing his rising stardom with the release of "Expression On Your Face," a unique and futuristic electro-pop track that showcases his signature avant-garde synth melodies and features vocals from Bladee and Ecco2k.
The track opens with neon-coated production and Bladee's hushed vocals teasing the refrain. Then, as layers of sleek synths, beats, and samples intensify, Bladee croons insightful lines like "It's a thin line, this love and hate/ And this line ties me to this place" and "It's the wrong tastе, don't waste that change/It's the еxpression on your face / Reality sinks to decay/ Really is this no other way?"
Ecco2k's unique vocal style adds depth to the track, creating a dynamic interplay between the three artists. On the hook, he professes to the ether, "I'm touched by nobody / I show affection to the floor / I can't stop the music/ But I know how to play along." In his verse and the bridge, he talks about his experience dealing with haters and non-believers in his talent, using the sonic real estate to call out "so-called pop-stars," referring to the artists making repetitive pop songs that have been on the top charts recently. He also says, "R.I.P. to those fallen off the charts," saying that most of these people will fall from popularity as soon as they get off the charts, doomed to one-hit wonder status.
The accompanying music video, directed by Anton Tammi, is a visually stimulating feat that perfectly complements the track's futuristic sound. Opening with the producer locking into his work, he tinkers and toils away at his studio, transforming the ideas of his imagination into a reality.
The new single will be featured on Mechatok's highly anticipated forthcoming album, Wide Awake. The new record follows the success of his last LP, Defective Holiday OST, and his album with Bladee, Good Luck. The new album will feature recent songs like "Addiction" and "Virus Freestyle," as well as collaborations with F5ve, Tohji, and Isabella Lovestory.
