Blending the lines between exquisitely crafted indie rock and infectious pop magic, Nilüfer Yanya is shaping up to be on practically every 2019 shortlist for breakout artist of the year. The profound London talent, who is currently on tour with Sharon Van Etten, originally created quite the stir with a handful of critically-acclaimed EPs, but what is really making waves is the news that Yanya is currently working towards her highly-anticipated debut album Miss Universe, which is due out March 22.

"Tears" follows the previously released singles "Heavyweight Champion Of The Year" and "In Your Head," both of which are set to appear on Miss Universe, and sees Yanya demonstrating her wondrous range of musical poise. While her past work has largely been centered around her virtuoso-like guitar skills, "Tears" marks a noted departure as Yanya bounces through a synth-pop dreamscape accented by self-realization and groove-inducing production.

The infectious new track, which premiered on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 show, is accompanied by an equally delightful lyric video reminiscent of early flash animations. It is the perfect bit of mid-2000s charm for a track that has all the sentimentality and songwriting flair of the earworms that defined those sacred years of pop.

Yet, what is arguably more important than the fact that Yanya just dropped a bop about accepting your true feelings and past mistakes, is what this means for the London artist's forthcoming debut album. Miss Universe is shaping up to be a debut that puts Yanya on the map.
