Suki Waterhouse Deals a Double Dose of Wistful, Nostalgic Songwriting in "My Fun" and "Faded"

What a year it's been so far for actress, singer-songwriter, and artist Suki Waterhouse. Following her iconic role in Daisy Jones & The Six and recently becoming a mother, she continues to push the bounds of musical endeavors with her latest enthralling double single release, "My Fun" and "Faded." These singles are a unique blend of wistful psych-pop and folk elements, with Waterhouse's understated, impassioned vocals taking center stage.

"My Fun" is an exuberant yet laid-back pop jam that sounds like the embodiment of spring shifting into summer. Waterhouse sings in a calming, whisper-like fashion, relaxing the listener as she croons, "Waited so long to find some peace / Call up the past, scream on the breeze / You make me laugh, you bless my sneeze... Take a hike up to the top of the sun / God, it feels good to find someone."

Meanwhile, "Faded" is a sweet mid-tempo ballad. The mellow rocker is backed by acoustic and strings, featuring one hell of an opening from the songwriter, "You used to call me Yoko / Cause I made a joke that all your friends are leaving." In this song, Waterhouse references an old flame, describing how those feelings have faded with time and maturity. Through her lyrics and soft, soothing vocals, the singer creates an intimate feeling that is innately nostalgic.

The new singles, a continuation of Waterhouse's musical journey thuse far, are a testament to her versatility. Following the success of her previous release, "OMG," these songs delve into the complexities of love and relationships. "OMG" was a nostalgic journey, filled with '90s-tinged guitars, funky bass lines, and prominent drums, while Waterhouse's dreamy vocals hinted at a past lover. She reflects on the sordid romance and the search for the person she was before succumbing to the toxicity of their affair.

“We went with a vibrant, fun, and choppy card cut stop motion animated style for these two videos, inspired by Monty Python and other great cut-out animators," shares Callum Scott-Dyson who directed and animated the visualizers for the two new tracks. "I really enjoyed making them and working with Suki. The songs had a nice differentiation in vibe, so I went with super saturated and bright for ‘My Fun;’ and then a little more washed out for ‘Faded.’”
