After a busy year of live shows, sibling duo Wasia Project, made up of Olivia Hardy and Will Gao, is back with their first release of 2025, “Letters From The Day.” In a note sent to their email list, Wasia Project told fans some of the details surrounding the single sharing, "It's been almost a year since we wrote this song. It was winter, we spent 2 weeks in the studio, hyper focusing on bringing it to life. It was fun to hone in on the song so intensely and give it all of our attention for a short space of time.” After playing it live at shows and festivals over the summer, the band is ready to share “Letters From The Day” with the world.
“Letters From The Day” feels like the moment after a relationship ends when you find yourself searching for answers. The single opens with Hardy singing “Letters from the day, the day you were mine / I don’t know how I will ever sing again.” Distorted harmonies layer Hardy’s voice over itself, giving the song a haunting quality. Drums and keys join Hardy’s rich vocals as she sings “Darlin’ don't you wait, just give me a sign / So I can understand and write my song again.” The chorus has a hint of desperation to it as Hardy sings “So don’t go my baby / Don’t leave me behind / Don’t you know my baby / I thought you were mine.” The tempo of the chorus is faster than the verse, emphasizing the urgency of the lyrics.
While the verses and chorus of the song ask questions of someone else, the bridge reveals that Wasia Project may have been aware of the problems that caused the end all along. A single chord rings out as Hardy confesses “I remember every single thing we ever fought about.” Percussion comes back in as she proclaims “I swear to God you’d still be here if we had only talked it out.” The single ends with the repeated phrase “I thought you were mine,” which may have been the underlying problem the whole time. What Hardy thought, didn’t line up with what her partner thought.
“Letters From The Day” may be Wasia Project’s only release of 2025, but our fingers are crossed that more is coming from the duo in 2026.
